As Toilet Brushes Go, this Oxo Is Handsome, Effective, and Reasonably Priced.

Oxo Good Grips Toilet Brush & Canister (36181) is a well-designed toilet brush at a reasonable price. Its clean, curved lines and smooth white plastic are attractive as cleaning implements go. The canister is 8 3/4 inches (22 cm) tall, 5 inches (12.5 cm) in diameter, with a discreet gray Oxo logo on the side. The brush and handle are 16 3/4 inches (42.5 cm) long, with a flexible neck. The canister keeps the brush concealed when not in use. It opens automatically when you lift the brush and stays open until you put the brush back in. Then it closes like a clam shell, without a hitch. Holes in the drip tray inside the canister allow water to drain.

The brush has tapered bristles and screws off for easy replacement. Oddly, the 2 1/2-inch flexible section of the handle just above the brush also screws off. I can only guess that someone may want to remove this section to shorten the handle. I previously owned a toilet brush that had a second brush attached to the side for cleaning under the toilet rim. It didn’t work especially well, and I find that this Oxo brush works better, because its bristles are longer. The white shorter bristles clean the bowl, while the stiffer blue bristles at the top of the brush are good under the rim. It takes significant pressure to bend the “flexible” handle. This isn’t difficult to supply, but I’ve never found the need. The bristles easily reach under the toilet bowl rim.

My only gripe about this brush and canister design is that moving it takes more effort than I’d like. It takes two hands. You have to pick it up from the bottom, with your other hand on the top. I can’t just grab it with one hand to move it out of my way or to another bathroom. In order to do that, the canister would need a bit of a neck at the top. It’s a minor issue, and I’m pleased with the Oxo’s function and appearance.

This brush works fine, and looks neat beside our new toilet, while being handy enough to use frequently. The caddy does just what it’s supposed to do. The replaceable brush head is a good idea; I just wonder if I’ll ever need all the extra heads I bought!
